Zero in on your budget.<\/span><\/strong> You need to know what you can afford monthly (for your mortgage and for bills and maintenance costs), as well as what you can put toward a down payment and closing costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consult your fam<\/span><\/strong>ily.<\/strong> <\/span>If you\u2019re going to share the house with your spouse, kids or other family members, sit down and talk through these points together. Everyone should be on the same page before making such a large investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
